Radiologic-Pathologic Correlation Intracranial Chondroma
A 42-year-old woman had a change in the character of her migraine headaches. Her usual pattern consisted of throbbing frontoparietal headaches that occurred at biweekly intervals for many years. The new headaches had begun several months before and she described them as “ice pick” headaches occurring three to four times per day in the right frontoparietal region. This is the first case of an intracranial chondroma reported from Pakistan. Abstract Intracranial chondromas are benign, slow-growing, cartilaginous tumors, which comprise only about 0.2% of all intracranial tumors. The majority of these lesions occur at the base of the skull, where they are thought to arise from residual embryonic chondrogenic cells along the basal synchondrosis. Very rarely, they may also originate from the convexity dura, falx cerebri, or the brain ...
متن کاملUnusual location of an intracranial chondroma.
We describe the MR findings in a case of chondroma arising from the falx. At MR imaging, the mass appeared well defined, lobulated, hypointense to isointense on T1-weighted images, and very heterogeneous with marked hyperintense areas on T2-weighted images. After contrast administration, this tumor enhanced slightly on delayed images.
متن کاملChondroma of Cerebral Falx: A Rare Intracranial Diagnosis.
Chondromas are benign tumors which mostly occur in extremities but also sometimes in the cranium. Intracerebral chondroma is rare condition. Most intracranial chondromas arise from skull base, but chondroma of falx origin is a rare entity and mostly occurs in relation with syndromic disorders such as Mafucci's syndrome or Ollier's syndrome. Here, we report a rare case of falcine intracranial ch...
